Children's Car Seats

A new car seat is provided to any child whose family is income eligible. All children up to age seven are required by law to ride in a car seat. An appointment for instruction and installation must be scheduled. This service is provided in collaboration with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.

Parent/Guardian must meet with one of the case workers and provide proof of residency in Putnam County, income verification, and proof of household composition, i.e. birth certificates, passports, for each child in need of a car seat. Also required is proof of valid vehicle insurance or written notification that the individual does not have his/her own transportation but is in need of a car seat to transport the child in a taxi or in family member/friend’s vehicle. Child’s height and weight are required to ensure that the appropriate seat is distributed. A referral is then made to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department for distribution and instructional installation of the seat.
